gynogenesis
A form of reproduction in which the sperm triggers egg development but does not contribute genetic material; the offspring are all female. Used in biology and aquaculture.
雌性発生では、精子は卵の発生を刺激するが、遺伝子は伝わらない。
In gynogenesis, the sperm stimulates egg development but does not transmit genetic material.
単為生殖 (parthenogenesis) is development without any sperm, while 雌性発生 requires sperm activation but no genetic contribution.
雄性発生 (androgenesis) is the opposite: the egg is activated but only the male genome is retained.
Compound of 雌性 (female sex) + 発生 (development). A modern scientific term, likely calqued from English 'gynogenesis'.
