ばそれまでだ・ たらそれまでだIf that happens, it is all over
This construction says that if a decisive failure, loss, or breakdown occurs, the whole matter ends there or everything achieved so far becomes useless. It often gives a firm warning or a resigned assessment.
A condition that ends the whole matter
The conditional clause must name something capable of ruining, invalidating, or ending what is under discussion. The point is not merely that the event might happen: the speaker judges that, once it does, there is nothing meaningful left to continue or preserve. Expressions meaning “no matter how much” often appear before it to highlight the contrast between substantial effort and one decisive failure.
Warning and resignation
The same construction can warn someone not to waste earlier effort or acknowledge that a situation has reached a hard limit.

Three different kinds of consequence
たら最後 presents an unavoidable chain of events after a trigger. たところで says that trying something would not improve the result. By contrast, たらそれまでだ identifies the event itself as the point that ends or invalidates the larger matter. An ordinary たら conditional simply sets a condition and does not add this categorical “all over” judgment.
