になるEnd up in an unwelcome situation

になる says that circumstances lead someone into having to do or undergo something burdensome, awkward, or regrettable. It focuses on the predicament produced by earlier events, not on a freely chosen plan.

How it works

The clause before になる names the unpleasant action or experience that becomes unavoidable. The surrounding sentence usually supplies a cause—such as a mistake, accident, obstacle, or worsening condition—showing how the person was led into that result.

Past, predicted, and approaching results

Change the ending of なる to show whether the predicament happened, is predicted, or appears to be approaching.

まし時計どけいらず、はつ便びんわなかったため、よくじつ便びんなおになった

Analyze

A stronger version

おちい gives a stronger image of falling into a difficult situation. It suits a more serious or extended predicament better than a minor inconvenience.

Analyze

Predicament, no choice, or critical conclusion?

になる narrates or predicts how circumstances produce an unwelcome situation. ざるをない instead emphasizes a current decision made because there is no acceptable alternative. まつ closes a chain of events with the speaker's critical judgment about the final bad result, rather than centering the affected person's predicament.
