たりとも～ないnot even one; not for a moment

"Not even one", said like a vow or an order: not one day, not one yen, not for a moment. たりとも stands after one of something, and the sentence ends in a negative.

本ほん番ばんまで、一いっ分ぷんたりとも練れん習しゅう時じ間かんを無む駄だにできない。

Until the performance, we cannot waste even one minute of practice time.

我われ々われは、一人ひとりたりとも見み捨すてない。

We will not abandon a single person.

How to form it

一 + counter + たりとも + negative

一いち日にちたりとも, 一いち円えんたりとも, 一人ひとりたりとも, 一いっ歩ぽたりとも, 一いっ瞬しゅんたりとも. The amount is nearly always one, the least there could be. One set phrase has no number: 何なん人ぴとたりとも, "no one at all".

After it: A negative, mostly "can't", "won't" or "must not": できない, 許ゆるさない, てはならない.
Tone: Forceful and solemn. A resolve, a rule or a warning.
Where you'll meet it: Speeches, pledges, rules, news, and the heroes of manga and dramas. Seldom in everyday talk.

In use

隊たい員いんを一人ひとりたりとも危き険けんな場ば所しょに残のこしてはならない。

Not a single member of the team may be left in a dangerous place.

ここから一いっ歩ぽたりとも退しりぞかない。

I will not fall back a single step from here.

不ふ正せいな支し出しゅつには、一いち円えんたりとも公こう金きんを使つかわせない。

I will not let a single yen of public money be spent improperly.

何なん人ぴとたりとも

A set phrase from laws and rules: "no one, whoever they may be". The reading is なんぴと, not なんにん.

規き則そくの適てき用ようにおいて、何なん人ぴとたりとも特とく別べつ扱あつかいされてはならない。

In applying the rules, no one may be given special treatment.

About something small, it's a joke

It belongs with rescues, public money and the days before a big performance. Over something small, you are making a mock vow.

Sounds odd: このプリンは、一ひと口くちたりともあげないよ。

I'm not giving you a single bite of this pudding.

Plainly: 一ひと口くちもあげない.

The everyday "not even one". たりとも stands where this も would, and turns a plain fact into a vow or an order.

教きょう室しつには学がく生せいが一人ひとりもいません。

There isn't a single student in the classroom.

として～ないN2

Formal and emphatic too. It looks over a group and reports no exception: nobody did, nothing was. たりとも is more often about what can't be spared or allowed.

応おう募ぼ者しゃは一人ひとりとして必ひつ要ような条じょう件けんを満みたさなかった。

Not one applicant met the necessary conditions.

One sound away, and the other way around: no negative, and it asks or hopes for even a little.

多た少しょうなりともお役やくに立たてれば幸さいわいです。
