らしてのかんそうろんかさねてのけつろんProcess or circumstance before a noun

ての places a verb clause before a noun as a compact frame: the clause describes a prior process, experience, manner, or circumstance closely connected with that noun.

How the relationship works

The noun names the main impression, result, event, stage, or activity, while the preceding clause supplies the frame in which it should be understood. With nouns such as かんそう, はんだん, けつろん, or けってい, the clause often describes the experience or process that produced it.

A prior process or experience

Here the clause gives the experience or sequence leading to the following noun.

かいがいさんねんかんらしてのかんそうを、そっちょくにおかせください。

Please tell us frankly what you thought after living abroad for three years.

Manner and accompanying circumstances

The relationship is not always literal time order. The clause may instead describe how, with whom, or under what circumstances the activity named by the noun takes place. English may then use “by,” “with,” “while,” or “under.”

Analyze

Compared with an ordinary relative clause

An ordinary relative clause places a plain-form verb directly before the noun and simply identifies or describes it. By contrast, ての presents the clause as the process or circumstance framing the noun. A plain-form version can sometimes paraphrase the meaning, but changing one form into the other is not a general substitution rule.
