てやるDefiant determination
Expresses a forceful, often defiant resolve to do something: “I’ll do it—just you watch.” It is especially natural when the speaker is confronting an obstacle, rival, or personal challenge.
How it works
The subject is usually the speaker and is often left unstated. The important ingredients are a future action the speaker can control and some resistance to overcome. The ending does more than report a plan: it actively displays fighting spirit, anger, rivalry, or stubborn resolve.

何度失敗しても、今度こそこの作品を一人で完成させてやる。
No matter how many times I fail, this time I’ll finish this work on my own—just watch me.

A defiant reply
Different strengths of intention
てやる presents the intended action with rough defiance. てみせる is an emphatic pledge to accomplish something and prove it, but it is less inherently aggressive. つもりだ simply states a plan or intention and is the neutral choice.
The identical ending can have another meaning
When someone else benefits from the action, the same visible ending can mean “do something for them.” That is a giving-and-receiving use, not the determination taught here. Participant roles and context decide which reading applies.
弟の宿題を見てやった。
I looked over my younger brother’s homework for him.
AnalyzeThe younger brother receives the benefit, and the sentence describes a completed action. This is not a defiant promise.
