ぶり・ っぷりWay of acting or performing
ぶり and っぷり turn an action or state into a noun describing the noticeable way it is displayed or carried out. The expression usually carries an evaluation, such as admiration, surprise, or criticism.
What the expression focuses on
This pattern does not simply tell you how to perform an action. It looks at someone's actual behavior or performance as a noticeable whole. Thus 話しぶり is the manner in which someone speaks, while 働きぶり is how someone works or the quality of that work.
彼女は新人とは思えないほど、落ち着いた話しぶりだ。
For a newcomer, she speaks with remarkable composure.
AnalyzeUsing the result as a noun
The completed expression behaves as a noun. It can take a particle, modify another noun with の, or appear at the end of a sentence with だ or another noun ending.
Different noun positions
Manner versus elapsed time
The manner use describes how an action is performed, as in 話しぶり. After a length of time, however, ぶり instead means that something happens for the first time in that period. That elapsed-time use is a separate grammar point.
