どころかFar from; not just... but

どころか rejects an expected description A and replaces it with a strikingly different reality B. B may be the direct opposite of A, or it may go so far beyond A that A sounds like a serious understatement.

How the contrast works

Think of A as a claim, expectation, or point on a scale. The speaker raises A only to dismiss it, then gives B as the important correction. The sentence therefore needs a clear B clause; stopping after A usually leaves the intended correction unfinished.

B is the opposite of A

Here, the first description is directly overturned.

Analyze

B goes far beyond A

A is not necessarily the literal opposite of B. It may simply be far too weak to describe the actual degree.

Choosing an English translation

“Far from A, B” works well when B reverses A. When B greatly exceeds A, natural English may instead use “not just A,” “much more than A,” or an emphatic correction. The essential point is that A must sound rejected or seriously inadequate, not merely followed by another fact.

Three nearby patterns

どころか corrects A by replacing it with B or showing that B goes far beyond it. By contrast, どころではない says that circumstances leave no room for A. ばかりか normally keeps A true and adds B in the same direction. Extended ぜん shifts attention to a more basic problem that must be considered first.
