ながら(も)Although; despite
ながら(も) acknowledges a fact or quality and then gives a result that goes against the expectation created by it. It often corresponds to “although,” “despite,” or “even though.”
How the contrast works
The first part is accepted as true, but the second part does not follow the result one would normally expect. For example, knowing that something is dangerous would normally lead someone to stop; continuing anyway creates the required contrast.
Attachments in use
The construction can follow verbs, i-adjectives, nouns, and na-adjective stems. Natural nonverb uses often occur in familiar combinations.

AnalyzeThe role of the optional particle
Adding も makes the concessive contrast easier to recognize and can give it slightly clearer emphasis. The basic relationship remains the same without it.

Concession or two simultaneous actions?
After a verb stem, the visible form is also used for two overlapping actions. Read it as “although” only when the second clause contradicts an expectation created by the first. If the clauses simply describe two actions happening together, it means “while.”
