て初めてOnly after doing
This construction says that only after an action or experience did something become possible, clear, or fully appreciated. The first event is presented as the meaningful turning point that led to the result.
A meaningful turning point
The two parts must have more than a simple before-and-after relationship. The first action or experience must enable the second result or lead to it. Common results include 分かる, 気づく, 知る, and できる.
What the experience brings about
The result may be intellectual, emotional, or practical.
