とても~ないCannot possibly
とても~ない presents something as simply impossible, unaffordable, unacceptable, or otherwise beyond what can be managed. It is stronger than merely stating that something cannot be done.
More than a simple negative
The negative ending supplies the actual negative meaning; the adverb raises it to “not realistically possible” or “completely beyond consideration.” Context must support that strong reading, such as excessive weight, cost, difficulty, danger, or emotional strain.
このソファは重すぎて、とても一人では運べない。

AnalyzePractical, financial, and emotional limits
The pattern is not limited to physical ability. It can also reject something as unaffordable, unacceptable, or emotionally unmanageable.

Analyze手が出ない is a natural fixed expression for being unable to afford or attempt something.

AnalyzeChoosing among strong impossibility patterns
とても~ない broadly presents an action, choice, cost, or situation as beyond what can be managed. っこない is more colloquial and makes a categorical prediction by attaching directly to a verb stem. ようがない specifically says that no method exists. どうにも~ない emphasizes that the situation cannot be brought under control by any attempted means.
