うちに・
This pattern places an action or change inside a temporary window: something happens while the current condition still holds and before it ends or changes. With a negative verb, it usually means “before that event happens.”
A window that will not stay open
The first part describes a condition that is expected to end, change, or develop. The second part happens before that boundary is reached. If the second part is deliberate, the speaker is often using the opportunity; if it is not deliberate, the sentence can report a change that emerged over time.
Three common uses
Notice how each first clause creates a temporary period rather than merely naming a time.
学生のうちに、専門外の授業も受けてみたい。
While I am still a student, I would like to try taking classes outside my field too.

What the negative form means
In the negative pattern, the negative belongs to the first event. It does not negate the action that follows. The meaning is: carry out the second action while the first event has not happened yet.
Choosing between while and before expressions
Use うちに when the interval feels like a temporary window, when a change is approaching, or when something develops during the interval. 間に more neutrally places an event inside a continuing period. For “before,” 前に simply states that one event comes earlier, whereas ないうちに highlights the still-valid period before the expected event occurs.
