でしょうかPolite, cautious questions and requests
でしょうか makes a question sound polite and cautious. It is common when requesting information, carefully confirming something, or asking someone to do something.
Polite without sounding abrupt
The tentative wording in でしょう gives the listener some room rather than demanding an immediate, direct answer. In a question, this often works mainly as cautious politeness, so the best English translation may simply be a polite question rather than one containing “probably.”
Asking for information
この申込書の締め切りはいつでしょうか。
When is the deadline for this application form?

Confirming an arrangement
来週の面談はオンラインでよろしいでしょうか。

Softening a request
でしょうか can also soften a request, but it does not itself mean “please do.” The preceding words must clearly express the desired action.

Compared with a basic question
A question ending in か is a normal direct polite question when the sentence itself is polite. Using でしょうか adds a more tentative, careful tone, which is useful in formal inquiries or when you do not want to sound demanding.
