では・じゃあ・それでは・それじゃ connect what has just been said or settled to a conclusion, decision, next action, or closing. Depending on context, they often mean “well then,” “in that case,” or simply “then.”
How the connection works
These expressions do more than announce a new sentence. The next move should make sense because of the preceding situation: a time has been agreed on, preparations are complete, a problem has appeared, or a conversation is ready to end.
A casual decision
この店はもう閉まりました。
This shop has already closed.
