かQuestion marker
Add か to the end of a polite sentence to ask the listener a direct question. It works for both yes-no questions and questions that ask for specific information.
Two kinds of direct question
A yes-no question asks whether the whole sentence is true. When the sentence contains a question word such as “what,” “where,” or “when,” that word shows which information is missing, while final か marks the sentence as a polite direct question.
A yes-no question
An information question
何 asks for the missing information; final か makes the whole sentence a direct question.
