How to express that a matter, dispute, or situation is resolved, decided, or no longer in question. Japanese uses different words depending on whether something is formally decided, a problem is resolved, or a feeling is calmed.
To say that a plan, date, or decision has been settled.
Intransitive verb meaning 'to be decided' or 'to be settled'. Used for plans, dates, rules, etc. The focus is on the result, not who decided.
The date and time of the meeting have been settled.
The policy hasn't been settled yet.
More formal, often used for official decisions. Can be transitive or intransitive (passive form 決定される is common for 'be settled').
The budget has been officially settled.
Literally 'a talk is attached', meaning an agreement or settlement has been reached through discussion. Common in business or negotiation contexts.
We've settled on the price.
To say that a conflict, issue, or trouble has been settled.
Means 'to be resolved/solved'. Often used in passive form 解決される for 'be settled'. Suitable for problems, disputes, issues.
The problem was settled without incident.
The dispute was settled peacefully.
Implies a matter has been settled after some trouble or negotiation. Often used for disputes, lawsuits, or long-standing issues.

Means 'to become quiet', 'to settle'. Used for noise, wind, excitement, or unrest.
To say that a financial obligation has been settled.
To say that someone has established residence or is living somewhere permanently.
決まる is the everyday word for 'be decided'. 決定する is more formal and often used for official or organizational decisions. In casual speech, 決まる is preferred.
English 'settle' covers many concepts. In Japanese, you must choose the right verb for the context: 決まる for decisions, 解決する for problems, 落ち着く for calming down, etc. A direct translation like セトルする does not exist.
やっと仕事が片付いた。
The work is finally settled/done.
Let's wait until the situation settles down.
嵐が静まった。
The storm has settled.
都会に落ち着くことにした。
