The English verb 'envelop' (to wrap or cover) is not related to the noun 'envelope' in Japanese. For the verb, use 包む (つつむ) or 覆う (おおう).
When addressing an envelope in Japanese, the format is different from English. The sender's name and address go on the back flap, and the recipient's address is written vertically on the front, with the postal code in boxes. Use 様 (さま) after the recipient's name for politeness.
お祝いにはのし袋を使います。
For celebrations, we use a noshi envelope.
