門 (もん) is the traditional Japanese word for a gate, often implying a physical structure like a large gate at a house or temple. ゲート is a loanword used for modern, mechanical, or conceptual gates (airport gate, ticket gate, etc.). Use 門 for traditional or architectural gates, and ゲート for functional or modern ones.
At train stations, the ticket gate is 改札口 (かいさつぐち), not 門. Using 門 for a ticket gate would sound odd.
