彼女を避けている。
I'm avoiding her (because I don't want to see her).

Literally 'not approach'. Simple and direct way to say keep away from something physically.
危険なので、その機械には近づかないでください。
It's dangerous, so please keep away from that machine.

Literally 'respectfully distant'. Means to keep someone at arm's length out of caution or dislike, often politely.
彼は上司から敬遠されている。
He is being kept at a distance by his boss.
