周り (まわり) is for the immediate physical area around something. 辺り (あたり) is for a broader vicinity or neighborhood. 環境 (かんきょう) is for the overall environment, often abstract or systemic.
周り can also be used metaphorically, like 周りの目 (まわりのめ) meaning 'what others think' or 'public attention'.
