Used when clarifying that one's words were meant in a certain way, often after being misunderstood. Frequently appears as 〜のつもりで言う.
冗談のつもりで言ったのに、彼女は怒ってしまった。
I said it as a joke, but she got angry.
褒めたつもり
The words I meant as a compliment ended up hurting the other person instead.
