Used of a person with recognized ability, influence, or presence. Often has a written or somewhat formal feel, similar to saying someone is not just an ordinary person.

A written or analytical use for one individual personage or one character in a work. It is not the normal everyday way to count people; use 一人 for simple counting.
In criticism, the narrator is sometimes treated as one character within the work.
He too was one figure who lived through the Restoration period.
He is known as a person of note in this industry.
He's quite an impressive person.
