Buddhist term for rice ritually offered to a Buddha image or altar.
Every morning, I offer rice to the Buddha before chanting sutras.
Variant kanji form; less common than 仏餉.
Compound of 仏 (butsu, 'Buddha') and 餉 (shō, 'offering of food'). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the spelling is conventionally associated with Buddhist ritual offerings.
