Buddha, the dead, France
仏 centers on the Buddha and, by extension, the dead or departed. The meaning "France" is a modern phonetic abbreviation unrelated to the core idea.
仏 is the modern simplified form of 佛. The older form combines 亻 (person) with 弗, which contributed the sound and helped express the idea of a Buddha or enlightened being.
The person radical 亻 beside the simplified shape 厶 suggests a person who has attained Buddhahood. Think of a person sitting in meditation, representing the Buddha.
For ブツ, imagine a Buddha statue with boots on: boots -> ブツ, and the person-shaped Buddha wears them.
