Specifically the recitation of 'Namu Amida Butsu' in Pure Land Buddhism. Can be used as a noun or as a suru-verb for the act of chanting.

  My grandmother chants the nembutsu in front of the family altar every morning.

  He was walking while quietly reciting the nembutsu.
