pre-noun adjectival
lingering; still not subsided; continuing
Pre-noun adjectival (rentaishi) describing a feeling, excitement, or state that has not yet faded. Often used with 興奮, 余韻, 熱気, etc. The choice of kanji (冷, 覚, 醒) can nuance the type of lingering state.
試合後の興奮が冷めやらぬまま、ファンはスタジアムを後にした。
With the excitement of the match still lingering, the fans left the stadium.
夢から覚めやらぬようなぼんやりした頭で朝食をとった。
I had breakfast with a groggy head, as if not fully awake from a dream.
Compound of the continuative form of 冷める (sameru, 'to cool down') + やらぬ (yaranu), the archaic negative of やる (yaru, 'to do completely'). Literally 'not yet cooled down'. The kanji 覚 and 醒 are used for related verbs with different nuances.
