A Shinto deity associated with purification and restoration from calamity or wrongdoing. Often paired with 直毘神 (Naobi-no-kami).
See also: 直毘神
大直毘神は、禍事を直し清める神として信仰されている。
Ōnaobi-no-kami is worshipped as a deity who rectifies and purifies calamities.
直毘神 is a more general term for a restoration deity; 大直毘神 is a specific great deity of this type, often appearing in myths alongside 神直毘神 (Kami-naobi-no-kami).
From 大 (ō, 'great') + 直毘 (naobi, 'restoration, rectification') + 神 (kami, 'god'). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the name appears in classical Shinto texts such as the Kojiki.
