Almost exclusively used in the polite phrase ご存じ (honorific 'knowing'). Refers to someone's knowledge or awareness, typically the listener's or a respected person's.

Same meaning and usage; ご存知 is the more common kanji spelling for the honorific phrase, while 存じ is a simplified form.
The reading ぞんじ is a euphonic change from ぞんち (存知), itself a combination of 存 (know) and 知 (know). The kanji 存知 is ateji.
