Respectful expression used for what the listener or a respected third person knows. It is commonly used as ご存じです, ご存じだ, ご存じのとおり, and similar patterns; avoid using it for the speaker's own knowledge.

As you know, the meeting starts at three in the afternoon.
acquaintance; someone one knows
Less central than the 'knowing' sense. Most natural in polite noun phrases such as ご存じの方, meaning a person known to the listener or another respected person; 知り合い is the ordinary everyday word for an acquaintance.
