A species of flowering plant in the dogbane family, native to East Asia. Often grown as an ornamental vine.
Asiatic jasmine is twining around the garden fence.
Asiatic jasmine blooms with white flowers in early summer.
Kanji form is rare and mainly literary or botanical; the plant is usually written in kana.
Named after the poet Fujiwara no Teika (定家). The name 定家葛 (Teika kazura) literally means 'Teika's vine', from a legend associating the plant with his grave.
