strong verb
Linguistic term for a verb that forms its past tense and past participle by changing the stem vowel, as in Germanic languages. Used in contrast to 弱変化動詞 (weak verb).
English 'sing' is a strong verb, and its past tense is 'sang'.
German strong verbs change the stem vowel.
