Used when someone dies or is forced to give up before reaching their goal. Often appears in the patterns 志半ばで or 志半ばにして.

• 彼かれは志こころざし半なかばでこの世よを去さった。

  He passed away with his ambitions unfulfilled.

• 志こころざし半なかばにして倒たおれた先せん人じんたちの思おもいを継つぐ。
