Describes a lack of motivation or energy to start an action. Often used with a verb in the ～する気が起きない pattern.
今日は何もする気が起きない。
I don't feel like doing anything today.
疲れていて、料理を作る気が起きなかった
I was so tired I couldn't bring myself to cook.
A common Japanese expression combining 気 (spirit, mind) with the negative potential form of 起きる (to get up, to occur), literally 'the spirit does not arise'.
