quasi-incompetence
A legal term under the former Japanese Civil Code (before the 2000 adult guardianship reform) referring to a person with diminished mental capacity who was not fully incompetent but required a curator for certain legal acts. Now replaced by the modern adult guardianship system.
旧民法では、準禁治産者は重要な法律行為に保佐人の同意が必要だった。
Under the old Civil Code, a quasi-incompetent person required a curator's consent for important legal acts.
