noun
A meteorological term for a wind that carries high-density air from a higher elevation down a slope under the force of gravity. Often contrasted with 滑昇風 (anabatic wind).
See also: 滑昇風
滑降風は夜間に山から吹き下ろす冷たい風です。
A katabatic wind is a cold wind that blows down from mountains at night.
滑降風 is a downward, gravity-driven wind, while 滑昇風 is an upward, thermally driven wind.
Compound of 滑降 (gliding down, descent) and 風 (wind). The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the term is a modern technical coinage.
