Archaic term referring to a shared palanquin ride, often with romantic or intimate connotations. Not used in modern Japanese.

• 江え戸ど時じ代だいの浮うき世よ絵えには、相あい合あい駕籠かごで連つれ立だつ男だん女じょが描えがかれることがあった。

  In Edo-period ukiyo-e, a man and a woman riding together in a shared palanquin were sometimes depicted.
