A wooden box of roughly 37×52×25 cm designed to hold two cans of kerosene or oil. Historically common in Japanese households for storing and transporting fuel cans.
In old houses, an oilcan box was kept in the storeroom.

Compound of 石油 (sekiyu, 'oil, kerosene') and 箱 (hako, 'box'). The reading ばこ is a rendaku form of はこ.
