Used when someone in a position of authority or seniority fails to set a good example, thereby undermining their own credibility. Often appears in negative form 示しがつかない.

• 先せん生せいが遅ち刻こくしたら、生せい徒とに示しめしがつかない。

  If the teacher is late, it sets a bad example for the students.

• 上じょう司しがルールを守まもら
