Jōmon people
Historical term for the prehistoric inhabitants of the Japanese archipelago during the Jōmon period (c. 14,000–300 BCE).
The Jōmon people relied mainly on hunting and gathering for their livelihood.
Many pottery pieces have been excavated from Jōmon-period sites.
From 縄文 (Jōmon, the name of the prehistoric period) + 人 (person). The period name derives from the cord-marked pottery characteristic of the era.
