noun
utmost limit; extremity; result
Often used in the pattern ~の至り to express that something is the height or extreme of a state, or a natural result. Formal and somewhat literary.
感激の至りです。
I am deeply moved (lit. it is the height of emotion).
若気の至りで、そんなことをしてしまった。
I did that out of youthful folly (lit. as a result of youthful excess).
極み also means 'extreme' or 'height', but is more common in everyday speech and less formal than 至り.
Noun form of the verb 至る (いたる, 'to reach, to arrive at'), meaning the point reached or the result.
