minuend
In subtraction, the number from which another number (the subtrahend) is subtracted. A technical term used in mathematics.
In the expression '5 − 3', 5 is the minuend.
Compound of 被 (hi, 'receiving' or 'passive marker') + 減数 (gensū, 'subtrahend'), literally 'the number that undergoes subtraction'. A Sino-Japanese mathematical term.
