Historical administrative title for the head of a county (郡) in pre-modern Japan. Not used in contemporary local government.
In the Edo period, the district headman was in charge of county administration.
Compound of 郡 (county, district) and 長 (head, chief). The title was used historically for the chief administrator of a county.
