tanuki udon; udon with tempura batter bits
A hot udon noodle dish topped with small crispy pieces of deep-fried tempura batter (tenkasu). The name 'tanuki' (raccoon dog) is a playful reference, possibly because the batter bits are said to resemble tanuki's belly fur or because the dish is 'deceiving' like a tanuki in folklore.
On a cold day, I crave tanuki udon.
Tanuki udon has plenty of tempura batter bits in it.
