without doing ...
Attaches to the negative stem (nai-form) of a verb to mean 'without doing that action'. Used in both spoken and written Japanese.

朝ごはんを食べないで学校に行った。
I went to school without eating breakfast.
傘を持たないで出かけてしまった。
I ended up going out without taking an umbrella.
auxiliary
Used at the end of a sentence as a soft, indirect prohibition. Often heard in casual speech, especially from women or when speaking to children. Less direct than ~な.
そんなに急がないで。
Don't be in such a hurry.
ここで写真を撮らないで。
Please don't take pictures here.
