Addison's syndrome
Medical term for primary adrenal insufficiency, characterized by insufficient production of cortisol and aldosterone. Used in clinical contexts.
Addison's syndrome is caused by decreased secretion of adrenocortical hormones.
Named after Thomas Addison, the British physician who first described the condition. The Japanese term combines the katakana rendering of his name with 症候群 (syndrome).
