pantograph
Refers to the device on electric trains that collects power from overhead wires, or to a mechanical linkage used for copying drawings at scale.
When the train's pantograph separates from the overhead wire, sparks can sometimes fly.
I used a drafting pantograph to enlarge and copy the map.
Usage patterns
- パンタグラフを上げるto raise the pantograph (to make contact with the overhead wire)
The driver raised the pantograph before departure.
- パンタグラフを下げるto lower the pantograph (to break contact with the overhead wire)
