上じょう場じょう

Business and finance term for listing shares or other securities on an exchange, or for a company becoming publicly listed. Common in compounds such as 上場企業 and 上場株式, and in 上場する.

• この会かい社しゃは来らい月げつ、東とう証しょうに株かぶ式しきを上じょう場じょうする。

  This company will list its shares on the Tokyo Stock Exchange next month.

• 上じょう場じょう企き業ぎょうには高たかい透とう明めい性せいが求もとめられる。

  Listed companies are expected to have a high level of transparency.

Rare use for putting on or presenting a play, opera, or similar stage work. Modern Japanese normally uses 上演 for this meaning, so 上場 in this sense is best treated as old-fashioned or limited.
