上じょう達たつ

Used especially for a skill, ability, art, sport, language, or technique becoming better. As 上達する, it is normally intransitive: the person or skill improves.

• 毎まい日にち練れん習しゅうすれば、ピアノは少すこしずつ上じょう達たつする。

  If you practice every day, your piano playing will gradually improve.

• 彼かの女じょは英えい語ごの発はつ音おんがとても上じょう達たつした。

  Her English pronunciation has improved a lot.

Rare administrative or political use, opposed to 下達. It refers to opinions or wishes from common people or lower ranks being communicated upward to those in authority; do not confuse it with the common skill-improvement sense.
