A historical Japanese verse form consisting of four lines, each divided into two parts of 7 and 5 syllables. Used in the Heian and Kamakura periods; now a literary and historical term.

• 今いま様よう歌うたは、平へい安あん時じ代だいから鎌かま倉くら時じ代だいにかけて流りゅう行こうした歌か謡ようの一いっ種しゅです。

  Imayō-uta is a type of song that was popular from the Heian period through the Kamakura period.

• 『梁りょう塵じん秘ひ抄しょう』には多おおくの今いま様よう歌うたが収おさめられている。

  Many imayō-uta are collected in the 'Ryōjin Hishō'.
