also: さきどなり
next door but one; two doors away
Refers to the house or neighbor that is one house removed from the speaker's own, i.e., not immediately next door but the one after that.
さきとなりの家は空き家だ。
The house two doors down is vacant.
さきとなりの奥さんとはよく立ち話をする。
I often chat with the lady who lives two doors away.
Rare kanji spelling; the word is usually written in kana.
Alternate reading with rendaku; less common but still used.
Compound of 先 (saki, 'ahead' or 'beyond') and 隣 (tonari, 'next door'). The alternate reading さきどなり shows rendaku voicing of となり.
